President Tominaga Visits University of Strasbourg and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology

After attending the U7+ Alliance Presidential Summit in Paris on April 14 and 15, 2026, President Tominaga took the opportunity to visit the University of Strasbourg and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) on April 16 and 17, respectively.

In Strasbourg, he met with JSPS Strasbourg Office Director Toshiyuki Takagi (Tohoku University Emeritus Professor) and University of Strasbourg President Frédérique Berrod. He also visited the Consulate General of Japan in Strasbourg and met with Consul General Shigeta Oeda.

During the visit, an agreement was reached to further promote cooperation with the University of Strasbourg through short-term researcher exchanges and joint workshops. President Tominaga also met a Tohoku University exchange student currently on exchange at the University of Strasbourg and offered them words of encouragement.

During his visit to the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), President Tominaga met with its president Prof. Jan S. Hesthaven and had a productive discussion about potential collaborations in a wide range of areas such as applied AI, hydrogen technology, advanced materials, and semiconductor design.

President Tominaga also visited KIT laboratories including KASTEL – Institute of Information Security and Dependability, Grid Computing Center Karlsruhe GridKA, and High Performance Humanoid Technologies (H²T). During these visits he spoke with researchers involved in exchange with Tohoku University researchers through the German-Japanese University Network HeKKSaGOn.
