APRU was established in 1997 with the aim of fostering cooperation in education and research contributing to the economic, scientific and cultural advancement, and has grown rapidly to become a reputable international organization of leading research universities in the Pacific Rim. It organizes student-centric, research-centric and human capital development activities, and holds annual meetings for presidents and senior staff of the member universities to discuss and plan its future activities.

Starting April 2013, Tohoku University functions as a regional program hub for APRU’s Multi-Hazards Program in the next three years. Through training programs, summer schools, workshops and other activities provided within its framework, we will take a leading role in proposing countermeasures against low frequency high-impact disasters, making further contributions. APRU Plus: Addressing the Crisis

The ongoing COVID-19 situation has provided us with a reminder that even in uncertain times, APRU is a diverse community of people who lead, create, inspire and learn-together.
As a service to its members, APRU has set up “APRU Plus”, an online information hub for all of us working virtually.
This hub gives members access to webinars, knowledge exchange, and communications updates about the ongoing health crisis and universities across the Asia Pacific.

An Opportunity to Share Knowledge and Develop Skills

I learned the APRU SCL 2019 is a unique type of conference with intense working group sessions and panel sessions.
The committees and participants are now having a year project of writing. This was my first conference abroad and my first experience in this kind of conference.
I had a chance to share my research and gave a presentation about my research and my countryʼs study case in front of professors from various countries within my working group.
I also got a more comprehensive knowledge from the other participants. Even though I was the only student in my working group, they listened to my speech and appreciated my works.
The conference is being followed by a year project of writing a handbook. It is an excellent opportunity to practice my writing skills and to collaborate with many professors from overseas. I also found one
of the most valuable things that I will keep for a long time: friendship.
Even though we came from various countries and backgrounds, we created strong bonding between us.
