A Visit from Staff of America’s National Science Foundation (NSF)

On September 3rd 2014, Professional Staff Member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee Mr. Allen Cutler, Senior Advisor for the National Science Foundation Mr. Anthony Gibson, and Dr. Kellina Craig-Henderson, Director of NSF Tokyo Regional Office visited Tohoku University. During this visit they spoke with WPI-AIMR Director Dr. Motoko Kotani, IRIDeS Professor of Affected Area Supportology Dr. Makoto Okumura, and Dr. Yuichi Ono, of IRIDeS International and Regional Cooperation Office.

Additionally, they visited Arahama Ward of Sendai City as well as the Yuiage Ward of Natori City to view the unparalleled level of tsunami damage with IRIDeS Research Fellow Abdul Muhari. While there they also toured ground-level raising and regarding construction, as well as view some of the reconstruction work.
