On September 2 and 3, President Susumu Satomi attended the Eastern Economic Forum, held at Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok, Russia. The Eastern Economic Forum is a large-scale international assembly of Asia-Pacific region economies and Russia with the goal of promoting the accelerated development of the economy of Eastern Russia and expanding international cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. This year’s Forum was the second time it was held, being hosted by Russian President Vladmir Putin, with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and many others in attendance.
On September 3, President Satomi participated in a meeting with Prime Minster Abe, representatives from Japanese industries, local governments, universities, and others, where as the representative of Japanese universities, he presented on the current status of exchanges between Japan and Russia, as well as future plans to further encourage these exchanges. Following this presentations, Prime Minister Abe expressed his will to have the government further strengthen and support these exchanges.
