On April 14 and 15, 2026, President Teiji Tominaga attended the seventh U7+ Alliance Presidential Sumit in Paris, which was co-hosted by École polytechnique, Sciences Po, and Université Paris Cité.
The U7+ Alliance is a coalition of universities from around the world, established to allow university presidents to engage in direct dialogue towards resolving shared global challenges and make recommendations to G7 member countries and organizations. Its annual summit is an important gathering that brings university presidents together in one place. The next summit will be held at Tohoku University in March of 2027.
37 universities from 14 countries participated in this year’s summit with engaging discussion on the theme of ‘The Social Role of Universities in a Divided World’. There were four sessions: AI and Business, Climate Change and Sustainability, Dual-Use Research, and The Social Role of Universities. The contents of the discussions can be found on the official website of the U7+.
During the closing ceremony, President Tominaga took the podium representing Tohoku University as the host of next year’s summit. He expressed his honor to host the event in Sendai and extended a warm welcome to all the participants.
There was also an event held in Paris with Tohoku University alumni living in the Paris metropolitan area. It served as an opportunity to learn about the alumni’s local activities and led to lively discussions.
