Chulalongkorn University President Puriwat pays visit to President Tominaga

On April 7, President Wilert Puriwat of Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) led a delegation including Chulalongkorn’s Vice President for International Affairs and seven other administrative leaders to Tohoku University.

Following a meeting with President Teiji Tominaga, a signing ceremony was held for the renewal of the two institutions’ university-level academic exchange agreement and a cooperation agreement for a new collaboration fund.

After the ceremony, discussions took place regarding future cooperation, touching on topics including joint research and student exchanges. Tohoku University was represented by Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki, Executive Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi, Professor Kazuko Suematsu, and others.

They considered fields for strengthening collaboration, such as disaster preparedness and resilience, and they also spoke about promoting the publication of co-authored papers and proposals related to creating incentives to encourage joint research.

To promote student and faculty exchanges, the representatives discussed the running of summer camps, seminars, etc., as well as the possibility of both universities sharing online teaching materials.

Towards the end of the meeting, Chulalongkorn’s vice presidents, whose areas of responsibility included AI and IT, disaster preparedness, personnel exchanges, student mental health, crisis communication, etc., expressed interest in collaborating with their counterparts at Tohoku University who oversee similar areas of responsibility. Both sides discussed proceeding with such matching, with the collaboration of university deans, in future meetings.

Chulalongkorn University’s visit is expected to lead to further collaboration between the two institutions moving forward.
