Vice President Nagasaka and his team attended a Vietnam Alumni Association meeting in Hanoi

On Thursday, August 8th, Vice President Prof. Tetsuya Nagasaka, Prof. Yumiko Watanabe (Institute for Excellence in higher Education), and Prof. Hitoshi Tanaka (Institute of Liberal Arts and Science) visited Thuyloi University in Vietnam, where they met with its president. Vice President Nagasaka outlined the objectives of the visit, which included recruiting outstanding students from Vietnam and strengthening the alumni network.

Following the meeting, the delegation participated in a discussion hosted by the Tohoku University Alumni Association in Vietnam (TUAAV). Chaired by Prof. Nguyen Trung Viet, Chairman of TUAAV, the gathering saw around 20 members participating both in person and online. The discussion focused on the importance of promoting the university to young students, particularly undergraduates, and involved meaningful dialogue on future collaborative projects. It was agreed that the exchange of information would continue, with the alumni association actively supporting Tohoku University’s public relations efforts.

After the meeting, the delegation and TUAAV members enjoyed a dinner at a traditional Vietnamese restaurant in Hanoi. They reminisced about their student days in Sendai and reaffirmed their connection to their alma mater over local delicacies.

This visit is expected to further strengthen the relationship between Tohoku University and its alumni in Vietnam and enhance the recruitment of talented students from the country.
