Vice President Nagasaka and his team attended a Study Abroad Information Session Hosted by Indonesian Alumni Association

On Saturday, August 10th, Vice President Tetsuya Nagasaka and Associate Executive Vice President for International Affairs and Deputy Director of the Global Learning Center, Prof. Kazuko Suematsu attended the Tohoku University study abroad promotion event titled “IATU’s Day,” held at the Universitas Bakrie campus in Indonesia. The event was organized by the Ikatan Alumni Tohoku University of Indonesia (IATU) and was attended by over 60 high school and university students. The event was hosted by Tohoku University alumnus Dr. Andi Holic.

During the event, Vice President Nagasaka and Professor Suematsu introduced Tohoku University’s strengths and study abroad programs, while International Officer Davide Bitti presented the Alumni Network Platform. Additionally, a representative from the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia provided explanations about the application process and benefits of the MEXT scholarship.

The event saw active participation from many high school students interested in studying in Japan, who asked insightful questions and showed strong enthusiasm for studying at Tohoku University. After the main session, IATU hosted a lunch meeting and an open discussion with alumni association members. Following remarks from Vice President Nagasaka and Professor Suematsu, alumni shared their experiences at Tohoku University and reflected on their student years in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

This event served as a powerful showcase of the educational opportunities offered by Tohoku University and is expected to inspire the next generation of Indonesian students to pursue studies in Japan.

The following day, August 11th, Vice President Nagasaka and the team traveled to Yogyakarta, where they held an informal lunch meeting with eight Indonesian alumni. During this gathering, the alumni fondly recalled their studies at Tohoku University, discussed their career advancements, and brainstormed ideas on how to promote Tohoku University’s study abroad programs at Indonesian universities.

Similar to the August 10th event, this gathering further strengthened the bonds within the Indonesian alumni community and highlighted their continued vital role in promoting Tohoku University. It is hoped that this visit will further solidify the relationship between Tohoku University and its Indonesian alumni, leading to an increased intake of talented students from Indonesia.
