From June 22 to 24, Executive Vice President Asako Sugimoto and Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki attended the 29th Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Presidents’ Meeting, hosted by the University of California, San Diego. This annual meeting is an opportunity for leaders of APRU member universities, which drive research and education in the Pacific Rim region, to share their respective institutions’ efforts related to solving global issues and build deeper inter-university relationships.

Approximately 130 people, including 29 presidents of member universities, participated in the meeting, held under the theme of ‘Human Longevity in a Changing World: Innovation, Education, and Leadership for a Resilient Future’. Lectures and panel sessions focused on related global challenges and topics such as health care innovations, socioeconomic disparities, and geopolitical issues. These topics were approached from a variety of perspectives that highlighted AI, biotechnology, public health, and aging societies.

At the closing ceremony, EVP Ueki presented and announced that the APRU University Executives’ Summit, a new conference for member universities’ senior-level representatives in charge of areas such as research and international relations, will be held at Tohoku University in October 2026.
