This webinar will be delivered in English via Zoom.

Outline

There have been many signs recently that a second wave of the COVID-19 epidemic could be on the horizon. The science of planning and management is therefore urgently needed to help us build a new society that is capable of living with the virus.
In response to this situation, Tohoku University has organized a special lecture and discussion with Professor David Alexander, the father of modern disaster science. He was an early advocate of the integration of the social and natural sciences, which is a necessary part of the science of disasters.
Tohoku University is home to leading researchers in the natural and social sciences. It is also a research center for the Great East Japan Earthquake and related recovery efforts.
We believe that the participation of experts, students, and citizens in these discussions will provide important clues regarding how we should build our future society — a society that is hopeful and that can coexist with the virus while still maintaining scientific rationality.
We look forward to your participation.
