ABOUT THE COMPETITION

Join the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) and the Hinrich Foundation in the Sustainable Trade Challenge to develop innovative policy and industry solutions for strengthening global trade sustainability.

All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of prominent trade experts from the Hinrich Foundation, APRU, UNESCAP and Asian Development Bank.
Winners will be announced on March 15, 2019 and receive USD cash prizes.

PURPOSE

Making global trade more beneficial for societies and economies

ELIGIBILITY

The competition is open to all graduate students from the Asia Pacific, either as individuals or in teams of maximum 5 students. Participants must still be enrolled at University in March 2019 when the winners are announced.
Students from different universities are eligible to participate on the same team.

YOUR TASK

Students should identify one specific issue in the Hinrich Foundation Sustainable Trade Index (STI) 2018 related to an economy covered in the STI and recommend one innovative and workable policy OR industry solution that addresses that particular issue to make trade more sustainable and beneficial for the selected economy.
Students will submit the following proposals and strictly follow the respective word limits:

  • Policy Solution OR Industry Solution (max. 800 words)
  • Implementation Plan (max. 300 words)
  • In addition to the above, students may submit additional optional elements to support their proposal, such as videos, PowerPoints or other elements.

PRIZES

All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of prominent trade experts from the Hinrich Foundation, APRU, UNESCAP and ADB.
Cash prizes will be available for two categories of submissions – policy solutions & industry solutions.

Policy Solutions (USD):

3rd: $300

Industry Solutions (USD):
1st: $1000
2nd: $500
3rd: $300

Winning submissions will be showcased across various digital platforms including: Hinrich Foundation and APRU platforms (including events, publications, media, and websites).

Hinrich Foundation, APRU, UNESCAP, and ADB trophy – Awards will be presented at your university.​
