Executive Vice President Ueki Attends the 19th APRU Annual President’s Meeting

From July 28th to 30th, 2015, EVP Ueki attended the 19th APRU Annual President’s Meeting hosted by Osaka University.

The APRU Annual President’s Meeting serves as the consortium’s yearly general meeting, and was attended by approximately 100 member university representatives, including 26 university presidents.

At the Steering Committee Meeting on the first day, discussions regarding the transfer of Secretariat duties to from Singapore to Hong Kong were held. On the second day, Deputy Minister Kihei Maekawa of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) gave a keynote lecture on the current status and recent developments in higher education and the status of internationalization there within.

Additionally, the Japanese member university presidents held a panel discussion, where EVP Ueki gave a presentation on Tohoku University and answered questions. For the third day of the meeting, the representatives of the member institutions discussed their recent activities through APRU, as well their future plans for the network. Additionally, it was confirmed that President Satomi will serve as a APRU Steering Committee member.

Tohoku University’s International Research Institute of Disaster Science (IRIDeS) serves as the hub of the APRU-IRIDeS Multi-Hazards Program, and looks forward to continuing to actively contribute to APRU in the future.
