President Satomi Attends the “Japan-Russia Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Issues” in Moscow

On September 22nd, 2015, President Satomi attended the 11th Meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Issues in Moscow. The committee was co-chaired by Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan and Mr. Igor Shuvalov, First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia.

Held in the Russian government’s Guest House, the Japanese delegation included Minister Kishida, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Mr. Sakane, Senior Advisor at Komatsu Ltd., and representative of the Public-Private Development Council of Japanese-Russian relations and other representatives from economic circles were also in attendance, with the Russian delegation consisting of many leaders in government and industry.

During the conference, President Satomi spoke on the importance of inter-university academic exchanges, especially student exchanges. In response to this, First Deputy Prime Minister Shuvalov expressed the Russian government’s continued desire to actively support such exchanges between Japanese and Russian universities.
