On October 9th, 2015, Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki attended the 4th RENKEI Annual Meeting at Ritsumeikan University Tokyo Campus.
At the Annual Meeting, the representative of the RENEKI secretariat, British Council Director Matt Burney, as well as approximately 30 Executive Vice Presidents and Pro-Chancellors responsible for international exchanges from universities in both countries were in attendance. Following a review of RENKEI’s activities between 2014 and 2015, presentations on the planned new workshops beginning in 2016 took place. Additionally, discussions on potential changes and new goals for the consortium’s second period (beginning in 2018) were also held.
During the 2014 to 2015 overview, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor Peter Smith of the University of Southampton presented on the Summer School held in spring 2015 (coordinated in Japan by Prof. Toshihiko Nakata, School of Engineering.)
About RENKEI
Official name – Japan-UK Research and Education Network for Knowledge Economy Initiatives
Started in 2012, it encourages collaborative research, knowledge transfers, the nurturing the research leaders and other human resources, and increased university-industry ties.
Secretariat is within the British Council.
Representative’s Meeting consists of two members from each country, and EVP Ueki is one of these members.
