Tohoku University and the University of Washington (UW) established a joint research fund program to support collaborative research in 2024. Based on an agreement of both Presidents made in September 2024, both universities are now inviting the third round’s applications from researchers who would like to promote joint projects in the 2027 academic year.
If you wish to apply, please consult with your partner researcher(s) at UW and submit your application through UW’s online system by the deadline. Please note that the online application must be submitted by the UW-side principal investigator (PI) on behalf of the project. Please refer to the details below.

Funding Scale & Value
– Awards: Up to 3 projects
– Value: Up to $10,000 (JPY 1,500,000) per project from each respective institution

*Note: Due to differences in the financial years of both universities, this is the support period on the Tohoku University side. The UW-side support period runs from February 2027 to February 2028.
