On August 10, 2026, a ceremony was held in the presence of the Ambassador of Japan to the Czech Republic for the signing of a university-level academic exchange agreement with Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic), one of Central Europe’s most historic institutions with deep traditions, founded in 1348.
Representing Charles University at the ceremony were Rector Jiří Zima, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Michal Vrablik, former Vice-Rector for International Affairs Markéta Martínková, and International Relations Office Director Silvie Boumová. Representing Tohoku University was Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki (General Affairs, International Relations, and Academic Resources). The Ambassador of Japan to the Czech Republic, His Excellency Mr. Kansuke Nagaoka, was also in attendance to celebrate the start of new collaborations between the two universities.
Hitherto, Tohoku University and Charles University have primarily promoted collaboration in education and research centered on the Graduate School of Medicine. With the conclusion of this university-level academic exchange agreement, it is expected that their existing cooperative relationship will develop even further and that their partnership will continue to deepen through student and researcher exchange and joint research.
