National Tsing Hua University Associate Vice President and Delegation Visit Tohoku University

On May 27, 2026, a four-member delegation from Taiwan’s National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) including Associate Vice President for Global Affairs Prof. Hsiang-Yu (Angie) Wang visited Tohoku University and met with Executive Vice Presidents Prof. Toshiya Ueki and Prof. Masahiro Yamaguchi.

Tohoku University and NTHU have maintained researcher and student exchange since 2009, when they concluded a university-level academic exchange agreement. During the meeting, both sides enthusiastically discussed deepening their existing joint research and further strengthening their partnership. NTHU showed particularly strong interest in expanding students exchange, early and mid-career researcher and faculty exchange, and both parties agree to further strengthen collaboration. They also discussed promoting joint research in quantum technology, semiconductors, spintronics, and next-generation synchrotron radiation facilities (such as NanoTerasu).

The delegation also visited the Tohoku University Archives, Lu Xun’s Lecture Hall, the Graduate School of Information Science on the Aobayama campus, and a Department of Physics laboratory at the Graduate School of Science.

The NTHU members also expressed their hopes that this visit will serve as a first step towards building a new relationship. It is expected that this visit will further strengthen the partnership between the two universities and accelerate international exchange not only in academia, but also in industry.
