On May 28, 2026, a delegation from Université Paris-Saclay, including Vice-President for International and European Affairs Prof. Delphine Placidi-Frot, visited Tohoku University and met with Executive Vice President Prof. Masahiro Yamaguchi (International Strategy and Global Education Initiatives), the Vice Dean of the Graduate School of Science, and others.
Tohoku University and Université Paris-Saclay concluded a university-level academic exchange agreement in 2020 through which they have maintained researcher and student exchange. During the meeting, members from both sides enthusiastically discussed deepening joint research and further strengthening their partnership. In particular, the members from Université Paris-Saclay expressed strong interest in accepting increased numbers of Tohoku University students for exchange, as well as a desire to establish a more flexible system for doing so.
Prior to the meeting, the delegation visited the Graduate School of Engineering’s Smart Robots Design Lab where joint research has already produced results. After listening to a presentation on cutting-edge research in human-assist technologies including caregiving robots, they toured the laboratory itself. When students explained the functions of each robot, the guests enthusiastically asked questions, interacting with the robots directly. The tour fostered a friendly atmosphere for exchange from beginning to end.
This visit is expected to further strengthen the partnership between the two universities and accelerate exchange in a variety of fields.
