On January 26-27, Tohoku University hosted the 3rd edition of the U7+ Alliance Presidential Delegates Meeting. This meeting is an official gathering for Vice President-level representatives and those in charge of matters related to international affairs at member universities within the U7+ Alliance to discuss and prepare the agenda for the year’s U7+ Presidential Summit.
This year, a total of 47 participants from 30 member universities joined the event, and Tohoku University was represented by Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki.
At the start of the event, EVP Ueki delivered the keynote address and presented examples of how Tohoku University has engaged with the alliance as part of the university’s comprehensive internationalization efforts.
Thereafter, Vice-President for Global Engagement Motohiro Tsuchiya of Keio University, the U7+ Alliance’s current chair institution, served as moderator and oversaw productive discussions regarding the upcoming Presidential Summit scheduled to be held in Paris in April 2026, as well as the alliance’s future activities. Representatives presented the current situations and challenges at their respective universities, countries, and regions. In addition, a wide range of ideas were exchanged about opportunities for new initiatives across the alliance.
After the meeting, the participants went on a campus tour and visited the university’s International Research Institute of Disaster Science.
