On November 26, 2025, Prof. Daniel Jutras, the Rector of Université de Montréal, visited Tohoku University and met with Executive Vice President Asako Sugimoto.
The two universities discussed research areas of common interest, including AI, medicine & biomedical innovation, the One Health movement, and materials science, and discussed the possibility of future collaboration. The Université de Montréal delegation also emphasized how it uses its research results to contribute to society. With respect to international collaboration, the two parties spoke about their hopes regarding joint research opportunities through the EU’s Horizon Europe program. The development of early career researchers and doctoral students is likewise of interest to both universities, and they affirmed their recognition that the developing of skills that may lead to diverse careers is of great importance.
In addition to meeting with EVP Sugimoto and enjoying lunch with VP Masahiro Yamaguchi, the delegation also visited the Advanced Institute for Materials Research, the Tohoku University Archives, the International Research Institute of Disaster Science, and NanoTerasu.
It is hoped that this visit will lead to further exchanges and cooperation between the two universities.
