On October 2, 2025, National Taiwan University (NTU) President, Prof. Wen-Chang Chen and Vice President for International Affairs, Prof. Hsiao-Wei Yuan, visited Tohoku University and met with President Teiji Tominaga, Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki, and Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi.

President Tominaga visited NTU on September 11, 2025, to renew their university-level academic exchange agreement with Tohoku University and share opinions on further strengthening cooperation. This time, NTU’s President Chen and VP Yuan’s visit to Tohoku University for the Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU) Board of Director’s Meeting and Annual General Meeting served as an opportunity to continue the discussion.

Specifically, there were enthusiastic talks about cooperation in both education and research, such as considering short programs to strengthen student exchange, implementing joint educational programs, selecting priority areas for research collaboration, and establishing research cooperation under new frameworks.

With the renewal of the university-level academic exchange agreement, as well as support from a newly launched joint seed fund, it is expected that exchange and cooperation between the two universities will develop even further moving forward.
