An interactive exhibit on quantum-related fields was held on July 30 and 31 as part of the 2025 Tohoku University Open Campus. The exhibit was presented by the ʻChicago- Tohoku Quantum Allianceʼ, a collaboration between the University of Chicago and Tohoku University. Approximately 850 people, mainly elementary, middle, and high school students, visited the two-day event, exceeding last year’s attendance.
The exhibit, intended to inspire and educate future leaders in quantum technology, gave participants the opportunity to discover the fascinating mechanisms of quantum-related fields with a poster display introducing basic concepts, as well as a Quantum Board Game and Quantum Maze Game for PC. “It made me more interested in quantum- related fields and Iʼve gained a broader perspective on career choices”, and “Iʼve become very interested in studying at Tohoku University”, were just some of the comments from students who played the games.
The six visiting University of Chicago faculty and students collaborated with ten Tohoku University undergraduate and graduate students to present the exhibit in both Japanese and English and create an authentic international exchange experience. The popular exhibit had participants eagerly awaiting their turn, and the venue buzzed with the voices of excited and curious students.
On July 31, after the Open Campus event, a networking dinner was held with faculty and students involved in quantum research from both universities, further deepening cross-border academic and cultural exchange.
This project enabled Tohoku University to share its globally engaged research and educational activities with people from a wide range of age groups and provided a valuable opportunity to increase interest in science.
