
On March 12, representatives from the U.S. Consulate General Sapporo, led by the consulate’s Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Jeff Freeman, paid a visit to Tohoku University. They met with Executive Vice President Takafumi Aoki, Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki, and Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi.
During the meeting, EVP Aoki introduced the university’s major initiatives, such as the promotion of industry-university collaboration at NanoTerasu, the next-generation synchrotron radiation facility located on the university’s Aobayama Campus.
VP Yamaguchi went on to review the current status of cooperative ties between Tohoku University and its American partner universities. He highlighted their activities’ central focus on the field of quantum science as well as startup support. Thereafter, the participants discussed the possibilities of future collaborations between Japan and the U.S.
Mr. Freeman shared his wish to use his diplomatic experience to contribute to the continuation and development of scientific and technological collaborations between academic institutions in both countries.
As the discussion came to a close, the participants agreed to work further to promote both research and personnel exchanges between Tohoku University and academic institutions in the U.S.
