Directors from CNRS visit Tohoku University

On February 26, two directors from the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) paid a visit to Tohoku University. Dr. Lionel Buchaillot, the director of the CNRS Institute for Engineering and Systems Sciences, and Mr. Jacques Maleval, the director of the CNRS Tokyo Office for North-East Asia, met with Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki.

In the meeting, EVP Ueki introduced Tohoku University’s strategy related to overseas collaborations and internationalization. In addition, he expressed the university’s hope for even stronger exchanges with French universities and research institutes, including CNRS, moving forward. Dr. Buchaillot responded with his thoughts on the development of the university’s internationalization strategy and expressed his interest in and hope for stronger ties between the two institutions. They went on to discuss Tohoku University’s efforts to accept and support researchers as it continues to increase its research capabilities, as well as the importance of interdisciplinary research in helping to solve societal problems.

During their stay, Dr. Buchaillot and Mr. Maleval visited the Institute of Fluid Science and also met with EVP Asako Sugimoto.
