Delegation from University of Alberta visits Tohoku University

On February 21, a delegation from the University of Alberta visited Tohoku University. Led by the University of Alberta’s Chief Strategy Officer, Dr. David Bressler, the delegation met with Executive Vice President Takafumi Aoki, Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi, and other university representatives.

During the meeting, EVP Aoki introduced the delegation to Tohoku University’s history and distinctive characteristics. VP Yamaguchi then explained the university’s plan for structural reform and its international strategy based on its recent accreditation as the first University for International Research Excellence. Dr. Bressler shared that under the leadership of its president, the University of Alberta is similarly promoting structural reform. He went on to give an overview of the university and also covered trends seen in its current initiatives, which include a focus on renewable energy and AI. In addition to expressing his support for Tohoku University’s structural reform efforts, Dr. Bressler emphasized his hope for forging stronger exchanges and collaboration between both institutions as they both pursue a greater international presence.

After the meeting, the delegation also paid a visit to the Tohoku University Micro/Nano-Machining Research and Education Center. They met with the center’s director, Professor Takahito Ono, and received a tour of the facilities.
