On February 3, 2025, Tohoku University Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki visited France’s Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon (INSA Lyon) and met with the head of INSA Lyon, Director Frédéric Fotiadu.
Director Fotiadu welcomed EVP Ueki, who went on to highlight the long history of collaboration between both institutions. This close relationship, which began over twenty years ago, has been centered around the Institute of Fluid Science.
In addition to Director Fotiadu, the meeting was attended by INSA Lyon’s Vice President for Research, Marie-Christine Baietto, and its Vice President for International Affairs, Damien Fabrègue. They were also joined by Marie-Pierre Favre, who serves as Senior Advisor for International Development of the INSA Group and who will serve as Tohoku University’s Chief Global Officer from April 2025. Together, they engaged in a productive exchange of ideas regarding the direction of future collaborations.
During his stay in France, EVP Ueki also participated in a workshop that commemorated the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the INSA Lyon–Tohoku University Liaison Office. At the event, the international policy vision for the partnership between the institutions was presented, deepening the participants’ understanding of the promotion of future student and research exchanges.
It is hoped that this visit will lead to the further strengthening of the cooperative relationship between the two institutions moving forward.
