Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki attended the U7+ Alliance Presidential Delegates Meeting that was held at the Université Côte d’Azur in France on January 30 and 31, 2025.
This meeting marks the second occasion where Vice Presidential-level representatives from member universities and researchers from working groups convened to discuss preparations for the upcoming U7+ Presidential Summit. The summit is traditionally held each year in the country that will host the G7 Summit.
A total of 36 participants from 23 member universities gathered at this meeting to discuss alliance strategies, and exchange perspectives and ideas on this year’s U7+ Presidential Summit, which is scheduled for April 2025 at the University of Ottawa in Canada.
The meeting was moderated by University of Toronto’s Assistant Vice-President of International Engagement and Impact, Prof. Gwen Burrows. Prof. Burrows currently serves as the chair of the Bureau, which is one of the two governing bodies of the U7+ Alliance Leadership. There were several engaging discussions on key topics that the alliance must address in the future, as well as on effective ways to disseminate the outcomes of its initiatives.
Additionally, working groups presented reports on pressing global issues and activities carried out within the framework of the alliance, such as climate change and artificial intelligence. Participants expressed their enthusiasm and reaffirmed their commitment to refining their efforts in preparation for the next U7+ Presidential Summit.
