On November 26, Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki attended a research symposium held at the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) in Indonesia. The event was jointly organized by the Tohoku University’s Graduate School of Environmental Studies and ITB. In addition to Prof. Toshiaki Yoshioka, Dean of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies , many faculty, staff, and students from ITB participated, including Prof. Suprijadi, Dean of Graduate School of ITB. In his opening remarks, EVP Ueki noted the longstanding academic exchange between Tohoku University and ITB—particularly centered on the Graduate School of Environmental Studies—and expressed his hope that active scholarly collaboration between the two universities would continue to flourish.
Additionally, EVP Ueki met with Prof. Widjaja Martokusumo, Vice President for International Affairs at ITB. During this meeting, EVP Ueki mentioned Tohoku University’s recent accreditation for the “University for International Research Excellence” Program and voiced his strong commitment to expanding partnerships with leading overseas universities, including ITB, to further advance Tohoku University’s international presence. Prof. Martokusumo, recalling the long history of engagement between the two universities and the many ITB faculty who are Tohoku University alumni, expressed his hope that these alumni connections would help intensify both student exchange and joint research activities.
Following the visit to ITB, EVP Ueki visited the Universitas Indonesia(UI)and met with Prof. Heri Hermansyah, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the university’s designated next President. Prof. Hermansyah, who earned both his Master’s and Doctoral degrees at Tohoku University’s Graduate School of Engineering, was presented with a congratulatory letter from Tohoku University President Teiji Tominaga. Expressing gratitude to Tohoku University, Prof. Hermansyah affirmed his commitment to strengthening ties between UI and Tohoku University and further enhancing their collaborative initiatives in the future.
