On November 23, 2024, Tohoku University hosted an alumni gathering in Taipei, Taiwan. Attendees included President Teiji Tominaga, Executive Vice President Asako Sugimoto, Executive Vice President Hideo Harigae, Executive Vice President Tsuyoshi Toyama, and Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi. This event, organized by the Taiwan Alumni Association, served as an important occasion to strengthen connections among alumni and with the university.
The Taiwan Alumni Association, under the leadership of its current president, Mr. Justin Y. Chen, is an active organization with approximately 150 members. It hosts various events, including its annual general meeting and career development sessions for current students. The gathering welcomed alumni ranging from recent graduates to those who have made significant contributions in academia and business.
Prominent attendees included former association president Mr. Pedro B.F. Hsu, a leading figure in Taiwan’s power equipment industry, who has also contributed to advancements in green energy systems. In recognition of his accomplishments, Mr. Hsu is set to receive the Tohoku University International Award for 2024.
During the event, President Tominaga expressed gratitude to alumni for their ongoing support and collaboration with the university. Discussions centered on strengthening future exchanges between Taiwan and Tohoku University and exploring new opportunities for collaboration.
