On October 4, Dr. Andreas Göthenberg, Executive Director of the Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (STINT), visited Tohoku University and met with Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki and Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi.
EVP Ueki expressed gratitude for the various forms of support, including financial assistance, that STINT provides to the Japan-Sweden university consortium MIRAI of which Tohoku University is also a member. VP Yamaguchi spoke about the areas in which Tohoku University and Swedish universities are particularly deepening collaboration, such as Future Medicine and Health Care and next-generation synchrotron radiation.
In response, Dr. Göthenberg noted that climate change is also an important issue in Sweden, while expressing interest in Tohoku University’s interdisciplinary initiatives and SDGs efforts.
He also talked about the work being done to promote academic exchange and research integrity between Sweden and Japan through STINT, Sweden’s leading academic promotion organization.
Dr. Göthenberg also met with Institute for Materials Research Director Takahiko Sasaki and International Research Institute of Disaster Science Director Shinichi Kuriyama.
