On October 3, the Ambassador of India to Japan, H.E. Sibi George, visited Tohoku University and met with President Teiji Tominaga, Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki, and Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi.
President Tominaga welcomed Ambassador George, for whom this was a second visit since taking office last year, and introduced the achievements made through exchanges between Tohoku University and Indian universities. President Tominaga also spoke of his wish to further strengthen education and research ties with India hereafter.
Ambassador George stated that India is focusing on reforming education as well as on economic policies, and that it is prioritizing collaboration with educational institutions overseas, including those in Japan. With respect to Tohoku University, he stated that he particularly hopes to see the development of relationships with Indian institutions in the fields of medicine and semiconductors.
After meeting with the President, the Ambassador and his party visited Professor Kazuya Yoshida’s Space Robotics Laboratory, and following that he discussed matters with some of Tohoku University’s Indian students and researchers. Ambassador George spoke of his high expectations for the young generation who will take on the responsibility for future Japan-India relations, and enthusiastically answered questions from the students and researchers.
