Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay’s President Shireesh Kedare and his delegation visit Tohoku University

On August 9, President of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB), Shireesh Kedar, paid a formal visit to Tohoku University and met with President Teiji Tominaga. President Kedar was accompanied by his delegation that included Dean of International Affairs, Prof. Sudarshan Kumar, and Dean of Strategy, Prof. Krishna Kaliappan.

During the meeting, the executives from both sides discussed the possibility of expanding their collaboration beyond their existing disaster prevention research agreement. The fields that could potentially become new priorities for strategic collaboration are AI-based disaster science, medical biology that includes disciplines such as biosciences and medical engineering, as well as quantum-related technology, semiconductors, and robotics.

The IITB delegation then met Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki and Vice President Masahiro Yamauchi. They exchanged perspectives and had an in-depth discussion on the direction of comprehensive collaborations regarding academics, research, and university-industry partnerships. After their discussion, President Kedare and his delegation visited the Institute of Fluid Science, 3GeV high-brilliance synchrotron radiation facility— NanoTerasu, and Aobayama Garage, which is Tohoku University’s Startup Incubation Center.

It is hoped that this visit will further deepen the collaborative relationship between the two institutions and serve as an opportunity to further develop a comprehensive, continuous relationship.
