(EVP Ueki and VP Yamaguchi with President Li Yansong and the Shanghai International Studies University delegation)
On May 29, a delegation from the Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), led by its President, Prof. Li Yansong, visited Tohoku University. President Li and the delegation were warmly met by Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki, Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi and Prof. Nozomu Kawabata, Dean of Graduate School of Economics and Management.
At their meeting, EVP Ueki first introduced the long history of collaborations between Tohoku University and academic institutions from China.
The initiatives by the Center for Integrated Japanese Studies, which was established last year, were mentioned as well.
VP Yamaguchi touched on the importance of value creation at the humanities and social sciences faculties. He expressed his hope that exchanges between the two universities could be further developed through departmental academic collaborations.
From President Li, there was an introduction regarding Shanghai International Studies University’s international education system and education reform initiatives. He also expressed his hope for the further development of exchanges with Tohoku University.
After the meeting, President Li and his delegation went on an observation tour of the Tohoku University Archives and the lecture hall of the former Sendai Medical College where renowned Chinese author Lu Xun once studied.
It is hoped that this visit will contribute to the development of academic exchanges between the two universities.
