On March 25, 2024, Boise State University VP of Research and Economic Development Nancy Glenn visited Tohoku University and met Vice President Masahiro Yamaguchi for a partnership meeting. Eleven U.S. and Japanese universities, including Tohoku University, are founding members of UPWARDS for the Future (the U.S.-Japan University Partnership for Workforce Advancement and Research & Development in Semiconductors). Micron, the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), and Tokyo Electron are also founding members. VP Glenn and VP Yamaguchi enthusiastically discussed collaborations on UPWARDS and ways to promote exchanges between students and researchers, including those in fields other than semiconductors. Further collaboration is expected in the future.

After the meeting, Dr. Glenn and her party were given a tour of the Micro System Integration Center’s clean room and other facilities by its director, Professor Kentaro Totsu. It is expected that this visit will serve as an opportunity to further deepen collaboration between Tohoku University and Boise State University.
