Prof. Koichiro Nandate from the University of Washington gives a lecture on medicine in the United States

As part of the University of Washington-Tohoku University Academic Open Space (hereinafter AOS) activities, a lecture was held on March 18, 2024.

Prof. Koichiro Nandate from the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Washington gave a lecture on the good and bad aspects of clinical medicine in the United States. The lecture was held at the Seiryo Campus Centennial Hall (Seiryo Auditorium), and over thirty faculty members and students participated.

Prof. Nandate compared the American healthcare system as a contract-based business with the Japanese healthcare system, where medical care is provided by the nation as social welfare. He also explained the good and bad aspects of the American healthcare system through topics such as medical technology innovation and investment, medical device company scandals, and the opioid crisis.

The lecture was very interesting and encouraged the participants to consider future medical policy and ethics, and they asked many questions after the lecture.
