Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki attended the annual RENKEI (Japan-UK Research and Education Network Knowledge Economy Initiatives) Steering Committee Meeting in Brockenhurst, near Southampton, on March 20.
A total of 20 representatives from member universities and the British Council, which serves as RENKEI’s secretariat, participated in the meeting, discussing the next phase of the consortium’s future activities and management policies, which will begin in April 2025.
The meeting was moderated by EVP Toshiya Ueki, who is the Japanese co-chair, and the UK’s co-chair, Dr. Robert Spencer Hazel of Newcastle University. It included discussions about events planned for the upcoming year, such as workshops on the topics of Climate Change and Energy and Health, as well as the next phase of RENKEI’s activities and management policies in fiscal year 2025. After lively and productive discussions, it was agreed that the fostering of early-career researchers will be in focus in the next phase.
Prior to the annual Steering Committee Meeting, two researchers from Tohoku University participated in a three-day workshop on the theme of Health hosted by the University of Southampton from March 18 to 20.
