On June 28 and 29, Tohoku University Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki attended the German-Japanese Rector’s Conference held at the Japanese -German Center Berlin.
The symposium was held on the theme of “Education, Research and Innovation – The Universities’ Mission between Academic Core Values and Societal Expectations”, with approximately 150 attendees from Japan and Germany.
At the session, the participants discussed a variety of issues, including the accelerating speed of globalization, and the multitudes of issues surrounding the role of universities and academics in society. Further, they also discussed the increasing requests from government and society in seeking answers through the humanities fields, and the necessity of the humanities in shaping innovation and helping science carry out its contributions to society.
