EVP Ueki attends the 29th AEARU Annual General Meeting

On November 7, Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki attended the 29th Annual General Meeting of the Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU), which was held at and hosted by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

This year, 32 senior staff from member institutions participated and discussed topics such as activities from the past year and activities to take place in the next term.

The event began with remarks from the AEARU Chairperson, Academician Jinlong Yang, who serves as Vice President of the University of Science and Technology of China, and Prof. Nancy Ip, the president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. They spoke about the importance of member universities of the AEARU consortium carrying out collaborative initiatives to help address global issues as well as next-generation education across East Asia.

The participants then reviewed this year’s activities to support active student exchanges. These included short-term study abroad programs supported by AEARU and organized by member universities as well as the Global Learning Initiatives Program (GLIP), through which students can take courses offered at AEARU member universities online.

After the discussions came to a close, the participants were led on a campus tour. They viewed the library and laboratories where students’ research activities take place at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

The next Annual General Meeting is due to be held at the University of Macau in the fall of 2024.
