On April 19, 2023, a party of six from the University of Manchester, led by Prof. Stephen Flint, its Associate Vice President for Internationalization, visited Tohoku University. They held discussions with Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki and did a site visit.
At the meeting, EVP Ueki spoke about the exchanges that have continued since then and said that he was pleased to have the opportunity to discuss the further development of research exchanges between the two universities. Tohoku University’s Graduate School of Engineering and Manchester University’s School of Engineering concluded an academic agreement in 2007.
Prof. Flint then spoke about developments at the University of Manchester and explained that the purpose of his visit was to promote academic collaboration in respect of the International Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF), a new British government initiative. He introduced specific proposals for the launch of joint projects with Tohoku University and the implementation of collaborative programs for doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers.
Following the meeting with EVP Ueki, Prof. Flint and his party visited NanoTerasu, the Graduate School of Science, the Graduate School of Engineering, and the Research Institute of Electrical Communication, where they discussed future joint research opportunities with Tohoku University faculty members.
