We welcome you to this research workshop which explores a variety of exchanges that occurred between Japan, China, and India over the last 150 years. While considerable attention has been devoted to the intellectual interactions between Japan and China during this period, less scholarship has been dedicated to the historical relations between Japan and India, and China and India, with almost no research on the three-way interaction between China, Japan, and India. With a focus on how perceptions and representations of ‘Other’ Asian identities within Asia were expressed through these interactions, the workshop brings together prominent international scholars who specialize in different facets of this triangular exchange.
