ABOUT THE LECTURER:
Nadine Willems obtained a PhD in History from the University of Oxford in 2015 and currently teaches Modern Japanese History at the University of East Anglia. She specializes in the intellectual and cultural history of modern Japan, with a focus on the politics and literature of dissent during the first decades of the twentieth century. Her first monograph, about the anarchist Ishikawa Sanshirō, is based on her PhD thesis and was published by Leiden University Press in 2020. She has also translated 1930s poetry by Hokkaidō political dissenter and ethnographer Sarashina Genzō.
