Travel Plan

Followings are some suggestions of the travel plan for those coming from overseas countries. Please not that all information on below is for reference only and must be confirmed by airline companies / train operators before you fix the plan. Flight/train schedules can change till next July.

Overview
The nearest international airport is Chubu International Airport. If you have no plan to visit other places of Japan before the symposium, using this airport can be convenient for you; it takes about three hours from the airport to Takayama. Change train at Nagoya station. If you arrive at late night, staying overnight in the city centre of Nagoya is a good choice. If you will visit to some major cities such as Tokyo, Kyoto, or Osaka, you can take Shinkansen to reach Nagoya station first. Then, take a train to Takayama at Nagoya station. It takes around two hour.

Flights to Chubu International Airport

From Asian Countries: Flights from Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul, Busan, Bangkok, Singapore and other cities are operated daily.

From European Countries: Two direct flights are operated. One is from Helsinki (operated by Finnair) and the other is from Frankfurt (operated by Lufthansa). They are not daily flights; for those who plan to arrive on 28th July, take the flight LH736 from Frankfurt departing at 14:25 on 27th July and arriving at 8:50+1. There are connection flights to LH736 from some cities in Europe. Connections are also available at Tokyo/Narita(NRT), Seoul/Incheon(ICN), Beijing/Capital(PEK), Hong Kong(HKG) and so on.

From North America: There is one direct flight from Detroit but the flight arriving on 28th July will not be operated. Taking a flight to Tokyo/Narita is a good choice; there are several connection flights from Tokyo/Narita to Nagoya/Chubu.

Train services from Chubu International Airport to Takayama
Some sample plans are shown in below. They are based on train schedules in December 2009. Annual updates of train schedules are likely to be made in the next Spring.

Note: Connection time at Nagoya station may be shorter in the following plan; trains between the airport and Nagoya are frequent so please consider to take earlier train at the airport if you intend to keep sufficient time for changing trains.

Coach services are also operated from the airport to Nagoya and from Nagoya to Takayama.

Staying at Nagoya? Nagoya station is situated in the city centre of Nagoya. There is a hotel in the station bulding. Several hotels, including budget price hotels, are also available in walking distances.

Accommodations

Rooms of Conference Hotel - NOTE: The rooms we kept have run out. Although booking requests will be passed to the hotel, we cannot guarantee the availability.
Limited numbers of rooms are available in the conference hotel (Takayama Green Hotel) . Rooms of the hotel will be offered at rates shown on below:

- Single Standard: JPY 7,500 per person per night*
- Single Deluxe: JPY 12,750 per person per night*
- Twin Standard: JPY 6,450 per person per night*
- Twin Deluxe: JPY 11,700 per person per night*

* Rates are for nights of 28th July - 30th July. Additional charge (+3,150 JPY per person) will be applied for the stay at the night of 31st July. Breakfast is included.

If you wish to book the room shown above, please download the booking form (MS Word / PDF) and follow the instruction included. Payments will be made at the hotel by yourself (i.e. the registration process includes no transaction related to accommodations). Please note that booking will be automatically cancelled if you do not finish the registration till 31st May. If you book rooms after this date, you must register to the symposium prior to booking.

Other Hotels
Hotels can be also found within the city of Takayama. See this page to check details provided by the hotel association of Takayama. If you look for a western style hotel that is not expensive, check "city hotel & business hotel" of the page. Many hotels offer single rooms less than 10,000 JPY per room per night.
