Greetings from the Executive Director

I was appointed as the Director of the Organization from October 2019. The Research Organization of Electrical Communication (ROEC) was established eight years ago, based on the lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake, and under the cause of the realization of a disaster-resistant information and communication network. Under the leadership of Prof. Masataka Nakazawa, the first organization director, the cross-cutting, industry-academia-government collaboration projects have started. After that, under the head of the Director of Prof. Nei Kato, the 2nd term R&D of ROEC was started, and further development was achieved by turning to the R&D of cutting-edge resilient ICT and the promotion of social implementation. Now that eight years have passed since the ROEC establishment, the environment surrounding the ROEC has changed significantly. Considering the magnitude of damage caused by recent heavy rains and typhoons, preparations for disasters are still insufficient. In addition, since major disasters are caused by changes in the global environment, we must aim for resilient ICT engineering, taking environment into consideration. From now on, I would like to aim for resilient ICT engineering with a view to securing power during disasters and using renewable energy. We look forward to your continued guidance and support.
