Sphere Packed Pipe (SPP)

We are investigating heat transfer enhancement of high Prandtl-number fluid in Sphere Packed Pipe (SPP), which is a candidates of heat-transfer tube for Flibe blanket. We can obtain high heat transfer coefficient at low velocity with SPP because of thermal conduction through spheres and turbulent flow induced by SPP. Those characteristics is suitable for Flibe blanket.
We obtained heat transfer coefficient with SPP 3-4 times larger than that with a normal pipe.

Nano-porous heat transfer tube

We are also investigating effect of heat transfer enhancement with nano-porous heat transfer tube.
We obtained heat transfer coefficient with the tube about 1.3 times larger than that with a normal pipe.
