Electrical and Information Systems Ekiden (30 Nov 2024).

The weather was fine, but in winter conditions of less than 10°C, we participated again this year in the Electrical and Information Systems Ekiden competition. The result was 18th out of 33 teams. We are glad that no one got sick. In the first section, Mr Imai (junior and senior high school basketball team) ran very well in 10th place, and although he could not keep that position, everyone did their best. From the staff, Mr Imazaki and Mr Yabukami competed and won wine, which we hope to have at the third-year students’ welcome party the week after next. Thank you very much to Tootake-kun and Masui-kun for their work […]

Tohoku University Collaboration Forum on Electrical and Information Technology (October 24, 2024)

On Thursday, October 24, the Tohoku University Electrical and Information Technology Collaboration Forum was held at the Research Institute of Electrical Communication, Tohoku University. Our laboratory and Tohoku-TMIT Corporation (a start-up company of which Mr. Okita and Mr. Yabukami are the representative directors) demonstrated and exhibited permeability measurement probes and portable sensors for microorganisms and proteins (the photo shows an explanation). Mr. Mashiko, Mr. Tohtake, Mr. Imai, Mr. Okita, and Mr. Yabukami, who are researching related topics, were in charge of explanations. The visitors were quite different from those at the Open Campus, Science Day, Children’s Campus, etc. This time, the visitors were mainly working people, companies, and university staff,

Fall Break Children’s Campus (October 15 and 16, 2024)

The Autumn Vacation Children’s Campus is a collaborative event (now in its 17th year) between the Sendai City Board of Education and the Tohoku University School of Engineering. Sixth graders in Sendai who love science and crafts are invited to experience experiments and practical training at Tohoku University’s School of Engineering. This year, Dr. Aoki, who herself is a mother of elementary school students, took the lead, and Ryota Suzuki, Mashiko, Shinohara, Kamishima, Inoue, and Ms. Takamatsu worked with 32 sixth graders over two days as assistants. They conducted an experiment to make a one-yen coin fly by applying an impulse current (an electric current that instantaneously passes electricity charged

Laboratory tours for third-year students of the department of electrical, information and physics engineering (september 25 and 26)

On September 25th and 26th, we held a laboratory tour for third-year students in Room 308 and online. Following the online tour in the morning, in the afternoon, we exhibited deformed demonstrations of the research content (magnetic heating, environmental power generation, rotation of magnetic particles and antigens, magnetic guidance of catheters) and tried to explain it to the third-year students in an easy-to-understand manner. Since it overlapped with the academic conference of the Magnetics Society of Japan, about half of the students in the laboratory were on a business trip to Akita University, but we would like to thank the students who took part in the online explanation, preparation and

The 2024 Open Campus has ended successfully!

Tohoku University Open Campus was held on July 30 and 31, and Yabukami, Kuwahata, and Aoki (Ei) Lab. gave demonstrations, demonstrations, and displays on the second floor of the Electrical and Information Engineering Building No. 1. In addition to last year’s activities, we conducted hands-on experiments such as environmental power generation by Dr. Aoki, falling magnets, and catheter induction by Mr. Imazaki and Mr. Kamijima, etc. For two days there was no break in the flow of visitors, and students in our lab worked almost continuously to explain things to visitors. I felt that the elementary, junior high, and high school students who visited our lab were happy to participate

Science Day 2024 event has ended successfully!

On Sunday, July 14, Science Day was held at Tohoku University’s Kawauchi Campus, and we exhibited in the framework of the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering. From our laboratory, we demonstrated “Let’s make an impulse current to make a one-yen coin fly” and “Let’s move a model with muscle electricity” and let visitors experience them. The event was a great success with visitors continuing to come throughout the day, and Mr. Suzuki, Mr. Mashiko, and Mr. Shinohara were very busy in charge of the event. It was impressive to see the visiting elementary school students’ eyes shining as they repeatedly sent one-yen coins flying up to the ceiling. For more

The summer vacation children’s science campus event has ended successfully!

On August 3 (Thu.) and 4 (Fri.), the summer vacation children’s science campus event for 16 science-loving sixth graders in Sendai City at the Center for Creative Engineering was held. Under the title of “Let’s Play with Various Electricities (from Lightning to Heart Electricity),” the students made a one-yen coin fly to the ceiling using an impulse generator circuit and a self-made coil, and used myoelectric signals to move a model and a drone. The participating students, all of whom are science and craft enthusiasts, seemed interested in the project, and all were able to complete the set tasks. After the training, the students came to visit our laboratory. Ryota
