The tool is an analog game for 2\u20134 players or teams, played without digital devices. Each participant uses cards representing \u201cfission,\u201d \u201cmoderation,\u201d \u201cabsorption & moderation,\u201d \u201ccontrol rods,\u201d and \u201cscram\u201d in sequence, and moves markers representing neutrons across a board that models the reactor core. While aiming to maintain the number of their own neutrons on the board, players generate fission and maximize electricity output. The winner is the player who achieves the highest output at the end. The game simulates the typical neutron life cycle in reactors, where fast neutrons generated by fission are moderated to avoid resonance absorption and become thermal neutrons, which then induce further fission in the nuclear fuel to generate heat and multiple new fast neutrons. An evaluation involving 16 undergraduate and graduate students majoring in education indicated that the game is both highly enjoyable and effective in deepening understanding of neutron behavior in reactors. Compared to textbook-only learning, the game was found to promote more profound comprehension and retention of concepts such as chain reactions and criticality.\uff09<\/p>\n\n\n\n
