Solid Turnout for the “Global Resilience and the Role of University Education” Symposium

The “Global Resilience and the Role of University Education” symposium was held online on January 19, 2024 as a venue for reviewing achievements made over the last two years by Tohoku University’s International Collaboration between Japanese, British, and American Universities to Create Resilient Societies, which was selected for the governmental Inter-University Exchange Project in 2022.

During the first half of the symposium, Dr. David Alexander, a leader in the field of disaster prevention research from University College London, spoke on how to create human societies that can withstand disasters in an era of diverse risks that undermine social stability. In the second half, Tohoku University presented a report on practices for fostering global leaders that it developed through this project and the achievements of students participating in various programs.

With about 150 participants and numerous questions asked during the Q&A session, the event provided a good opportunity to think about how to build a resilient future. We look forward to providing more updates on this project’s achievements.
