【Public Lecture Report】UK Research Culture and Environment, and Promotion of DEI/EDI
July 22 (Mon.), 2024 15:00-16:00
At our invitation, Professor Lynn Ang from University College London’s
Institute of Education (UCL-IOE) gave a hybrid online/in-person lecture
titled “UK Research Culture and Environment & Promotion of DEI/EDI.” UCL
is one of Tohoku University’s strategic partners.
Recently, the UK government body known as UK Research and Innovation
(UKRI) has strategically worked on research and development, human
resources, and cultural impact. It calls on higher-learning institutions
to undertake comprehensive efforts to produce a new wave of talented
researchers and enhance the culture of research by creating environments
that attract individuals with diverse backgrounds, nurture them, and
develop their abilities.
Prof. Ang, who has worked for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) for
many years as the Vice-Dean of Research at UCL-IOE, spoke about
UCL-IOE’s organizational efforts to further EDI in the UK’s research
culture/environment and promote healthy work environments in the
research community. The lecture was held in a hybrid format, enabling
the participation of many staff from other universities in addition to
Tohoku University’s staff and graduate students.
