The annual meeting brings together directors and vice presidents in charge of international exchange at member universities to discuss APRU\u2019s contributions to solving various problems prevalent in the Pacific Rim region. This year, about 110 representatives from 47 universities participated.<\/p>\n

A panel discussion was held under the theme of \u201cActing Together in the New Abnormal\u201d, and reports on APRU projects currently being implemented were presented. To begin the panel discussion, representatives from UC Berkeley, the University of Hong Kong, and the University of the Philippines set out their thoughts regarding the critical challenges that research universities are facing during the current crisis, and there followed a discussion involving the presenters and other participants at the meeting.<\/p>\n

During the activity report that followed, Associate Professor Takako Izumi, who is program director at the International Research Institute for Disaster Science, reported on recent results and future plans for the APRU-IRIDeS Multi-Hazards Program, which is led and hosted by Tohoku University. In addition, Professor Osamu Murao, also of the International Research Institute for Disaster Science, reported on the ArcDR3 (Architecture and Urban Design for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience) initiative, in which Tohoku University works closely with UCLA.<\/p>\n
