The science of planning and management is therefore urgently needed to help us build a new society that is capable of living with the virus.<br \/>\nIn response to this situation, Tohoku University has organized a special lecture and discussion with Professor David Alexander, the father of modern disaster science. He was an early advocate of the integration of the social and natural sciences, which is a necessary part of the science of disasters.<br \/>\nTohoku University is home to leading researchers in the natural and social sciences. It is also a research center for the Great East Japan Earthquake and related recovery efforts.<br \/>\nWe believe that the participation of experts, students, and citizens in these discussions will provide important clues regarding how we should build our future society \u2014 a society that is hopeful and that can coexist with the virus while still maintaining scientific rationality.<br \/>\nWe look forward to your participation.<\/p>\n<h5>Speaker: David Alexander<\/h5>\n<p>1982-2002: Taught geomorphology, physical geography, natural hazards and disaster studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.<br \/>\n2003-2007: Scientific Director of the Advanced School of Civil Protection of the regional government of Lombardy.<br \/>\n2005-2011: Professor at the University of Florence.<br \/>\n2012-:     Professor of Risk and Disaster Reduction at UCL.<br \/>\nProfessor David Alexander is an authority on disaster management and has authored many<br \/>\nimportant works.
